Turning a photo into mosaic art starts with the source image, but the process does not stop at automatic image conversion. MosaicDIY uses image processing, color mapping and designer review to prepare a mosaic direction that can be reviewed before production.
1. Start with a clear source image
Photos with a recognizable subject, useful contrast and enough resolution give the design team more information to work with. A clear subject is usually easier to translate than a busy image with many small details.
2. Prepare the mosaic design preview
The source image is translated into a mosaic-ready direction using internal image processing, color mapping and designer review. The preview lets you evaluate composition and emphasis before physical production.
3. Refine what matters
Crop, emphasis, composition and color-area adjustments can be discussed before approval. The goal is not to reproduce every photographic detail literally, but to create a mosaic interpretation that reads well at the selected scale.
4. Approve before production
Once the design direction is approved, it moves into production and human quality control.
What happens after you upload?
Start by sharing your favorite photo or original artwork. For custom artwork, MosaicDIY aims to email a first preview within two business days after receiving a suitable image. You can review the composition and request refinements before approving the final design and price. Production begins after approval and payment.
Is a mosaic the same as a print?
No. The preview is digital, but the finished piece is physical mosaic artwork assembled from individual pieces of glass. The size, viewing distance and image detail all influence how the design looks in glass.
